Important Warnings

May cause next-day drowsiness, impaired alertness and risk of falls—avoid driving/operating machinery. Risk of dependence, misuse and withdrawal; use for shortest duration. Rare complex sleep behaviours (sleep-walking/driving/eating)—stop and seek medical help if occurs. Use caution in elderly, depression, history of substance use, respiratory disease (sleep apnoea/COPD), and liver impairment (dose reduction may be needed). Do not stop abruptly after prolonged use. Keep out of reach of children.

antipsychotics) increase sedation/respiratory depression; strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole

ritonavir) may increase levels; CYP3A4 inducers (rifampicin
carbamazepine
phenytoin
St John’s wort) may reduce effect; caution with SSRIs/SNRIs due to additive CNS effects; fluvoxamine may increase exposure.
