Treatment and prevention of angina (chest pain), management of hypertension (high blood pressure), rate control in certain supraventricular tachyarrhythmias (as prescribed)

Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels and reduces the workload on the heart. It also slows conduction through the AV node, helping control heart rate in some rhythm disorders.

Take exactly as prescribed. Swallow the tablet with water at the same time each day; can be taken with or without food. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice; monitor blood pressure/heart rate.

Headache, dizziness, flushing, ankle swelling (edema), constipation, nausea, fatigue, slow heart rate (bradycardia)

Use with caution in low blood pressure, heart failure, conduction disorders (AV block), bradycardia, and liver impairment. May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected. Do not discontinue suddenly. Seek urgent care for severe breathlessness, fainting, very slow pulse, or swelling/worsening heart failure symptoms.

Beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol, propranolol), digoxin, ivabradine, amiodarone/other antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, statins (especially simvastatin/atorvastatin—dose adjustment may be needed), CYP3A4 inhibitors/inducers (e.g., clarithromycin, erythromycin, azole antifungals, ritonavir, grapefruit juice; rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine), ciclosporin, theophylline

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
