Uses & Benefits
Treatment of mixed intestinal worm infestations such as roundworm (ascariasis), hookworm, whipworm, pinworm; may be used when both albendazole- and ivermectin-sensitive parasitic infections are suspected as per doctor advice
How It Works
Albendazole inhibits microtubule formation and glucose uptake in worms, leading to energy depletion and death. Ivermectin increases inhibitory nerve transmission in parasites by acting on glutamate-gated chloride channels, causing paralysis and death of the parasites.
Directions for Use
Shake well before use. Take the measured dose by mouth as prescribed by a doctor; commonly given as a single dose or short course depending on age/weight and infection. Preferably take with food or milk to improve albendazole absorption; follow deworming schedule advised.
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, mild rash
Warnings & Precautions
Use only on medical advice, especially in children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, liver disease, or if taking other medicines. May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected. In heavy parasite loads, symptoms may temporarily worsen due to parasite die-off. Rarely, liver enzyme elevation or hypersensitivity reactions can occur; seek care for jaundice, severe rash, breathing difficulty, or persistent vomiting.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin and other anticoagulants (bleeding risk), antiepileptics like phenytoin/carbamazepine/phenobarbital (may reduce albendazole levels), cimetidine (may increase albendazole levels), strong CYP3A4 inhibitors/inducers affecting ivermectin (e.g., macrolides, azoles, rifampicin), other CNS depressants (additive dizziness)
