Overview
Drug | Tablet
Uses & Benefits
Used to reduce heart rate in chronic stable angina (chest pain) and in chronic heart failure (with reduced ejection fraction) in eligible patients, as prescribed by a cardiologist.
How It Works
Ivabradine selectively inhibits the If (funny) current in the sinoatrial node, slowing the heart rate without reducing cardiac contractility. Lower heart rate decreases myocardial oxygen demand and can improve symptoms in angina and outcomes in selected heart failure patients.
Directions for Use
Take exactly as prescribed, usually twice daily with meals. Swallow tablet with water. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice; dose may be adjusted based on resting heart rate and tolerance.
Not recommended in severe bradycardia, acute heart failure, cardiogenic shock, sick sinus syndrome, SA block, 3rd degree AV block (unless paced), severe hypotension, severe hepatic impairment, or in pregnancy. Monitor heart rate and rhythm; seek care for palpitations, fainting, or new/worsening breathlessness.
