Treatment and prevention of folate deficiency; megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency; adjunct in hyperhomocysteinemia and during pregnancy when folate supplementation is advised (as directed by doctor).
L-methylfolate is the active form of folate (vitamin B9) used directly by the body for DNA synthesis and red blood cell formation. It helps correct folate deficiency, supports normal fetal neural tube development, and lowers elevated homocysteine levels.
Take as advised by physician. Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Do not exceed the prescribed dose.
Nausea, abdominal discomfort, bloating, loss of appetite, headache, rash
Use with caution in vitamin B12 deficiency/pernicious anemia as folate can mask anemia while neurological damage progresses—B12 status may need evaluation. Inform doctor if you have seizure disorders or are on antiepileptic therapy. Use only under medical supervision during pregnancy/lactation and in chronic illnesses.
Antiepileptics (phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone), methotrexate (folate antagonists—timing/dose as per doctor), trimethoprim, pyrimethamine, sulfasalazine, cholestyramine
