Bacterial infections in infants/children such as ear infection (otitis media), throat/tonsil infections, sinusitis, chest/lung infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible organisms
How It Works
Amoxicillin is a penicillin-class antibiotic. It kills bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis. It is effective only against bacterial (not viral) infections.
Directions for Use
Oral drops. Shake well before use. Measure dose with a calibrated dropper/syringe and give as prescribed by the doctor; dose is based on child’s weight and infection severity. Can be given with or without food (giving with food may reduce stomach upset). Complete the full prescribed course.
Schedule H: use only on prescription. Do not use in patients with allergy to amoxicillin/penicillins; use with caution in cephalosporin allergy. Stop and seek urgent care if signs of severe allergy occur (wheezing, swelling, widespread rash). Use caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed). Prolonged use may cause superinfection; monitor for severe diarrhoea (possible C. difficile). May affect some lab tests (e.g., urine glucose).
Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep tightly closed and out of reach of children. Follow label instructions for reconstitution (if supplied as dry syrup) and discard after the advised period.
