Treatment of fungal skin infections such as tinea (ringworm), athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris) and tinea corporis; may also be used for cutaneous candidiasis/pityriasis versicolor as advised by a doctor.
Butenafine is a topical antifungal that inhibits squalene epoxidase, reducing ergosterol synthesis needed for fungal cell membranes. This leads to accumulation of squalene and fungal cell death, relieving itching, redness and scaling.
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer over the infected skin and 1–2 cm around it, usually once daily (or as prescribed). Continue for the full course even if symptoms improve; wash hands after application and avoid contact with eyes, mouth and broken skin.
Burning sensation, itching, redness, irritation, dryness, rash, peeling
Do not use if allergic to butenafine. Avoid use on eyes, mouth, inside nose/vagina and on deep/open wounds. Stop and consult a doctor if severe irritation, blistering, swelling or no improvement after 2–4 weeks. Use in children, pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice; if breastfeeding, do not apply on/near nipples. Not for oral use.
No major drug interactions expected with topical use; avoid applying other topical medicines/irritants (including corticosteroids, keratolytics, alcohol-based products) on the same area unless advised as it may increase irritation or alter effectiveness.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from heat and direct light. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children.
Butenafine 1% Cream (generic), Butenafine Cream 1% (various brands), Lamisil 1% Cream (terbinafine), Candid Cream (clotrimazole 1%), Ketostar 2% Cream (ketoconazole)
