How It Works
Xylometazoline is an alpha-adrenergic agonist that constricts blood vessels in the nasal mucosa. This reduces swelling and mucus congestion, improving airflow through the nose.
Directions for Use
For adults and adolescents ≥12 years: 1 spray in each nostril up to 2-3 times daily as needed. Use for a maximum of 3 consecutive days unless advised by a doctor. Blow nose before use; keep bottle upright and avoid sharing the spray.
Side Effects
Nasal dryness, burning or stinging in nose/throat, sneezing, irritation, headache, nausea, palpitations, rebound congestion (with overuse)
Warnings & Precautions
Do not use for more than 3 days (risk of rebound congestion/rhinitis medicamentosa). Use with caution in hypertension, heart disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, enlarged prostate, glaucoma. Avoid in atrophic rhinitis or after certain nasal surgeries unless prescribed. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist/worsen. Not recommended for children <12 years for this strength. Do not exceed recommended dose.
Drug Interactions
MAO inhibitors (or within 14 days), tricyclic antidepressants, other sympathomimetics/decongestants, certain antihypertensives (may reduce control of blood pressure)
