Monograph
Domperidone (10mg/ml)
Nausea and vomiting, gastro-oesophageal reflux/regurgitation symptoms, feeding-related vomiting in infants/children (as prescribed).
Domperidone is a dopamine (D2) receptor antagonist that blocks dopamine receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone to reduce nausea and vomiting. It also increases gastric motility and accelerates stomach emptying, helping reduce reflux-related symptoms.
Oral drops: Use only on a doctor’s advice in infants/children. Measure with the provided dropper; give the prescribed dose usually 15–30 minutes before feeds/food. Do not exceed the recommended dose or duration; shake well if instructed on pack.
Dry mouth, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, increased prolactin (breast tenderness/galactorrhoea)
Schedule H: prescription only. Use with caution in infants and young children; use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. Risk of heart rhythm problems (QT prolongation/arrhythmias), especially with higher doses, existing heart disease, electrolyte imbalance, or when used with interacting medicines. Avoid/use with caution in moderate to severe liver disease. Seek urgent care for palpitations, fainting, severe dizziness, or allergic reaction.
Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors and QT-prolonging drugs increase arrhythmia risk: ketoconazole/itraconazole/fluconazole, erythromycin/clarithromycin, ritonavir, amiodarone, sotalol, quinidine, certain antipsychotics and antidepressants. Anticholinergics may reduce prokinetic effect. Other dopamine antagonists may increase side effects.
Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
