Treatment of acidity, heartburn and acid reflux (GERD), gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis; prevention of stress ulcers and acid aspiration where prescribed

Ranitidine is an H2-receptor blocker that reduces stomach acid production by inhibiting histamine action on gastric parietal cells. This helps relieve acidity symptoms and allows ulcers/erosions to heal.

Tablet; take exactly as prescribed. Commonly taken once or twice daily, with or without food; often taken at bedtime for night-time symptoms. Swallow whole with water; do not stop early without medical advice.

Schedule H: use on prescription only. Ranitidine products have been subject to regulatory actions/recalls in many countries due to potential NDMA impurity risk—use only if prescribed and from a compliant source. Use with caution in kidney or liver disease; dose adjustment may be required. Seek medical help for alarm symptoms (vomiting blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting) or if symptoms persist. May rarely cause confusion (elderly), severe allergic reactions, or blood count changes.

Warfarin (may alter INR),ketoconazole/itraconazole (reduced absorption),atazanavir (reduced levels),midazolam/triazolam (increased effect),glipizide (rare hypoglycaemia),procainamide (increased levels),antacids/sucralfate (may reduce ranitidine absorption if taken together)
