Adjunct in liver disorders such as fatty liver, alcoholic liver disease, drug/chemical-induced liver injury, hepatitis; used to improve liver function and as a hepatoprotective supplement
Silymarin is a flavonolignan complex with antioxidant and membrane-stabilizing properties. It helps reduce oxidative damage and inflammation in liver cells and may support liver cell regeneration and improve liver enzyme levels.
Take as advised by your doctor. Generally taken orally with or after food, swallowed with water. Do not crush/chew unless advised; continue for the prescribed duration.
Nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, bloating, headache, rash, itching
Use with caution in patients with known allergy to milk thistle/Asteraceae family. Diabetics should monitor blood sugar as it may lower glucose. If you have severe liver disease, jaundice, or symptoms worsen, consult a doctor. Not a substitute for treating the underlying cause (e.g., alcohol, viral hepatitis).
Antidiabetic medicines (may increase hypoglycemia risk), anticoagulants/antiplatelets (theoretical bleeding risk), drugs metabolized by CYP enzymes (potential interaction), oral contraceptives/estrogens (theoretical)
