Type 2 diabetes mellitus—to improve blood glucose control along with diet and exercise when dual therapy is appropriate
How It Works
Teneligliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin levels (GLP-1, GIP), enhancing glucose-dependent insulin release and reducing glucagon. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, lowering blood glucose without usually causing hypoglycaemia when used alone.
Directions for Use
Oral tablet. Usually taken with meals to reduce stomach upset; swallow whole with water. Dose and frequency as prescribed by the doctor; do not stop or change dose without medical advice.
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, upper respiratory tract infection, hypoglycaemia (especially with other antidiabetics), rash
Warnings & Precautions
Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with severe kidney disease, dehydration, sepsis, heavy alcohol use, liver disease, or hypoxia; renal function should be assessed before and during therapy. Stop temporarily before/after iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised. Use caution in elderly and in patients with pancreatitis history (DPP-4 inhibitors have rare reports of pancreatitis); seek care for severe abdominal pain. Monitor blood glucose, HbA1c, and for vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term metformin. Do not use if severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m²).
