Ointment

Antiseptic for prevention and treatment of minor skin infections; cuts, abrasions, minor burns; infected wounds; adjunct for wound care and prevention of infection.

Povidone-iodine slowly releases free iodine on the skin. Iodine rapidly kills a broad range of bacteria, fungi, viruses and some protozoa by oxidizing and iodinating cellular components.

For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, apply a thin layer 1-2 times daily or as directed by a doctor; may be covered with sterile gauze. Avoid contact with eyes; wash hands after use.

Mild burning or stinging, skin irritation, redness, itching, dryness, rash, allergic contact dermatitis

Do not use if allergic to iodine/povidone-iodine. Avoid use on large areas, deep puncture wounds or severe burns unless advised by a doctor. Prolonged/excessive use or application on large wounds may affect thyroid function—use caution in thyroid disease, infants/young children, and during pregnancy/lactation. Stop use and seek medical advice if irritation, swelling or worsening occurs. Not for internal use; avoid eyes, mouth and genital mucosa.

May interfere with thyroid function tests and radioiodine scans/therapy. Increased risk of systemic iodine absorption with extensive use; caution with lithium (risk of hypothyroidism/goitre). Reduced activity when used with other topical antiseptics (e.g., hydrogen peroxide, silver compounds, chlorhexidine, mercurials).

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture. Keep cap tightly closed and out of reach of children.
