Hydroxyzine is a sedating antihistamine (H1 receptor blocker) that reduces the effects of histamine responsible for itching and allergic symptoms. It also has anxiolytic and sedative effects by depressing activity in certain areas of the central nervous system.
Take as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet with water, with or without food; taking after food may reduce stomach upset. It may cause drowsiness—avoid driving or operating machinery. Do not increase dose or duration without medical advice.

May cause significant drowsiness and impaired alertness; avoid driving/alcohol. Use with caution in elderly, glaucoma, enlarged prostate/urinary retention, constipation, asthma/COPD, liver or kidney impairment. Can prolong QT interval and rarely cause serious heart rhythm problems—avoid in patients with known QT prolongation, significant electrolyte imbalance (low potassium/magnesium), or with other QT-prolonging medicines. Seek urgent care for palpitations, fainting, severe dizziness, or allergic reaction.
