Cefolac DT-50 contains Cefixime (50mg). It belongs to the Second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic class of medicines.

How Cefolac DT-50 works

Cefaclor is a cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. This weakens the cell wall and causes bacterial cell death, helping clear the infection.

Side effects of Cefolac DT-50

Most side effects of Cefolac DT-50 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• indigestion
• rash
• itching
• headache
• dizziness
• vaginal yeast infection

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only for bacterial infections; misuse can cause resistance. Do not use if allergic to cefaclor/cephalosporins; use caution with penicillin allergy due to possible cross-reactivity. Use with caution in kidney disease; dose adjustment may be needed. Seek urgent care for severe allergy (swelling, breathing difficulty), severe skin reactions, or persistent/watery/bloody diarrhoea (risk of C. difficile colitis).

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to cephalosporin antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

Warfarin/other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk), probenecid (may increase cefaclor levels), live bacterial vaccines such as oral typhoid vaccine (reduced vaccine effect)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
