Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis/tonsillitis, bronchitis), urinary tract infections, and uncomplicated gonorrhoea; also used for typhoid fever as per physician advice.

Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to bacterial cell death.

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily or in divided doses; may be taken with or without food (take with food if stomach upset occurs). Complete the full course even if you feel better; do not skip doses.

Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, indigestion, vomiting, headache, dizziness, skin rash, itching, elevated liver enzymes

Prescription-only antibiotic; use only for bacterial infections. Do not use if allergic to cefixime/cephalosporins; use caution with history of penicillin allergy. Diarrhoea may indicate antibiotic-associated colitis (seek medical help if severe/watery/bloody). Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney disease. Use with caution in pregnancy/breastfeeding only if advised by doctor.

Warfarin and other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk/INR), probenecid (may increase cefixime levels), live bacterial vaccines such as oral typhoid vaccine (reduced vaccine effect), antacids/iron supplements (may reduce absorption—separate dosing if advised)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original strip and out of reach of children.
