Important Warnings

Prescription-only medicine. Contraindicated in patients with personal/family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2). Risk of pancreatitis—stop and seek medical care if severe persistent abdominal pain occurs. May cause gallbladder disease (gallstones/cholecystitis). Can cause dehydration and worsen kidney function, especially with severe GI symptoms. Monitor for hypoglycaemia when used with insulin or sulfonylureas; dose adjustment of those agents may be needed. Not recommended in severe gastrointestinal disease (e.g., gastroparesis). Monitor for diabetic retinopathy complications in patients with diabetes. Rare risk of allergic reactions. Not indicated for type 1 diabetes; not for use with other GLP-1 receptor agonists or weight-loss products unless directed by a doctor.

Drug Interactions

Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased risk of hypoglycaemia)
other GLP-1 receptor agonists (avoid duplication)
medicines requiring rapid GI absorption may be affected due to delayed gastric emptying (monitor drugs with narrow therapeutic index)
warfarin (monitor INR when starting/changing dose)
oral contraceptives (generally no clinically meaningful change
but consider backup if severe vomiting/diarrhoea occurs)
