Important Warnings

Prescription-only antibiotic. Do not use in patients with known allergy to cefuroxime/cephalosporins; use caution with history of severe penicillin allergy. Use with caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed). Prolonged use may cause superinfection (e.g., thrush) or antibiotic-associated diarrhoea/colitis; seek medical help for severe/persistent diarrhoea. May cause dizziness—use caution while driving if affected.

Drug Interactions

Zyfurox 500 Tab may interact with the following:

Probenecid (increases cefuroxime levels)
anticoagulants such as warfarin (may increase bleeding risk/INR)
antacids/H2 blockers/PPIs (may reduce absorption of cefuroxime axetil)
oral contraceptives (possible reduced efficacy—use additional contraception during therapy and for 7 days after)
other nephrotoxic drugs (e.g.
aminoglycosides
high-dose diuretics—monitor renal function).
