Treatment of Ménière’s disease and related vestibular vertigo; helps relieve episodes of dizziness/vertigo, tinnitus (ringing in ears), nausea and hearing problems associated with inner ear disorders
Betahistine is a histamine analogue that improves microcirculation in the inner ear by increasing blood flow and reducing endolymphatic pressure. It also modulates histamine receptors in the vestibular system, helping reduce vertigo symptoms.
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Usually taken orally 2-3 times daily; take with or after food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water; continue regularly as benefits may take a few weeks.
Headache, nausea, indigestion, stomach pain, bloating, vomiting
Use with caution in patients with bronchial asthma, peptic ulcer disease or history of ulcers, and low blood pressure. Seek medical help if allergic reactions occur (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty). Not recommended for children unless advised by a specialist. May cause mild drowsiness in some; use caution while driving if affected.
Antihistamines (may reduce effect of betahistine), MAO inhibitors including selegiline/rasagiline (may increase betahistine levels/effects), alcohol (may worsen dizziness)
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
