Monograph
Tablet
Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as ear, nose & throat infections (sinusitis, tonsillitis, otitis media), lower respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, dental infections.
Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes, protecting amoxicillin from breakdown and extending its spectrum. Lactic acid bacillus is a probiotic that helps restore normal gut flora and may reduce antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
Tablet: take exactly as prescribed, preferably at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset. Swallow with water; do not skip doses and complete the full course even if you feel better. Dose and duration depend on infection type, severity, age and kidney function.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, indigestion, headache, dizziness, skin rash, oral/vaginal thrush
Prescription-only antibiotic; use only for bacterial infections. Do not use if allergic to penicillins/cephalosporins or if you had jaundice/liver problems with amoxicillin-clavulanate previously. Use with caution in liver disease, kidney impairment (dose adjustment may be needed), infectious mononucleosis (rash risk). Seek urgent care for severe allergic reactions, severe/persistent diarrhea (possible C. difficile), or signs of liver injury (yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine).
Warfarin/acenocoumarol (increased bleeding risk—monitor INR), methotrexate (toxicity risk), allopurinol (increased rash risk), probenecid (increases amoxicillin levels), mycophenolate (reduced exposure), live oral typhoid vaccine (reduced effect).
Store below 25°C, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
