Monograph
Tablet
Neuropathic (nerve) pain such as diabetic peripheral neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia, nerve pain due to spinal problems; used when vitamin B12 deficiency-related neuropathy is suspected.
Pregabalin reduces release of excitatory neurotransmitters by binding to the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels, decreasing nerve pain signals. Methylcobalamin (active vitamin B12) supports nerve myelin repair and helps in regeneration of damaged nerves.
Take orally as advised by the doctor, usually once or twice daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet/capsule whole; do not crush or chew. Do not stop suddenly—taper only on medical advice.
Dizziness, sleepiness (somnolence), fatigue, blurred vision, dry mouth, constipation, nausea, weight gain, peripheral edema (swelling), difficulty in concentration
May cause dizziness and drowsiness—avoid driving/operating machinery until effects are known. Use with caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment may be required). Risk of swelling/weight gain; caution in heart failure. Do not stop abruptly (may cause withdrawal symptoms). Monitor for mood changes/suicidal thoughts. Allergic reactions/angioedema can occur—seek urgent care if facial swelling or breathing difficulty occurs.
Alcohol and other CNS depressants (increased sedation), opioids (additive drowsiness/respiratory depression risk), benzodiazepines/sedatives, antihistamines (sedation), medicines causing edema (e.g., thiazolidinediones like pioglitazone may increase swelling), antidiabetic medicines (weight gain considerations)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
