Relief and prevention of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma and COPD (including chronic bronchitis and emphysema); prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm
How It Works
Salbutamol is a short-acting selective beta-2 agonist (SABA). It relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, leading to rapid bronchodilation and relief from wheeze, chest tightness and shortness of breath.
Directions for Use
For inhalation use only via metered dose inhaler. Shake well before each puff; inhale through the mouth as you press the canister, then hold breath ~10 seconds. Use as prescribed; can be used with or without food; using a spacer is recommended for better delivery. Rinse mouth after use if advised.
Schedule H medicine—use under medical supervision. Do not exceed prescribed dose; overuse may worsen asthma control and can cause serious heart effects and low potassium. Seek urgent care if relief is inadequate or symptoms worsen. Use with caution in heart disease, arrhythmias, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, seizure disorders, and in patients prone to hypokalemia. Use carefully with other sympathomimetics. Paradoxical bronchospasm can occur—stop and seek medical advice if breathing worsens immediately after use.
