Treatment and prevention of vitamin B12 deficiency, peripheral neuropathy (including diabetic neuropathy), megaloblastic anemia due to B12 deficiency, nerve pain due to B12 deficiency
Methylcobalamin is the active form of vitamin B12. It supports myelin sheath formation and nerve regeneration and is a cofactor in DNA synthesis and red blood cell formation, helping correct B12 deficiency and related neurological symptoms.
For intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) use as prescribed by a doctor. Dose and frequency depend on the condition; administer by a healthcare professional. Can be given with or without food (relevant for oral intake only).
Injection site pain, redness or swelling, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, skin rash, itching
Use with caution in patients with hypersensitivity to cobalamins/cobalt. Monitor in severe anemia and during long-term therapy. Rare risk of allergic reactions (seek urgent care for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, widespread rash). In Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy, vitamin B12 may worsen optic nerve damage—avoid unless advised by specialist.
Chloramphenicol (may blunt hematologic response), metformin (may reduce B12 levels with long-term use), proton pump inhibitors/H2 blockers (long-term use may reduce B12 absorption), nitrous oxide anesthesia (can inactivate B12 and worsen deficiency)
Store below 25°C, protected from light. Do not freeze. Keep ampoule/vial in original carton until use.
Mecobalamin Injection 1500 mcg, Methycobal 1500 mcg Injection, Nurokind 1500 mcg Injection, Neurobion Forte Injection (different strengths/combination), Cobadex CZS Injection (different combination)
