Tablet
Type 2 diabetes mellitus—adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control; used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines as prescribed
Teneligliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP). This enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion and reduces glucagon release, lowering blood glucose with a low risk of hypoglycaemia when used without insulin/sulfonylureas.
Oral tablet. Usually taken once daily at the same time each day, with or without food, as directed by the physician. Swallow whole with water; do not stop or change dose without medical advice.
Headache, dizziness, constipation, nausea, upper respiratory tract infection, nasopharyngitis, diarrhoea, rash, hypoglycaemia (more likely with insulin or sulfonylurea)
For type 2 diabetes only (not for type 1 diabetes/diabetic ketoacidosis). Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c regularly. Use caution in renal or hepatic impairment and in elderly; dose adjustment may be required per clinician advice. Risk of pancreatitis—seek medical help for severe persistent abdominal pain. Severe hypersensitivity/skin reactions can occur; discontinue and consult doctor if rash/swelling/breathing difficulty. May cause hypoglycaemia when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas—dose adjustments may be needed. Report symptoms of heart rhythm problems (QT prolongation has been reported rarely).
Insulin, sulfonylureas (e.g., glimepiride) may increase hypoglycaemia risk; strong CYP3A4/P-gp inducers (e.g., rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine) may reduce effect; monitor when used with other antidiabetic agents
