Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); reduction of cardiovascular risk in high-risk patients (as prescribed).

Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that blocks AT1 receptors. This relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, and reduces strain on the heart.

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time, with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Avoid use in pregnancy (can harm unborn baby). Use caution in kidney disease, liver impairment, dehydration/low salt, or history of low blood pressure. Monitor kidney function and potassium; risk of hyperkalemia especially in renal impairment/diabetes. Seek help for swelling of face/lips (angioedema) though rare. Not recommended with aliskiren in diabetes; caution in bilateral renal artery stenosis.

Potassium supplements/salt substitutes, potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone, eplerenone, amiloride), other antihypertensives, NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac) may reduce effect and worsen kidney function, lithium (increased toxicity), ACE inhibitors or other ARBs (increased renal/hyperkalemia risk), aliskiren

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light; keep in original blister pack.
