Uses & Benefits
Treatment and prevention of iron deficiency anaemia in children; anaemia due to poor dietary intake, growth spurts, convalescence, and nutritional deficiency states; folate/B12 deficiency associated anaemia (as advised by doctor).
How It Works
Iron replenishes body iron stores needed to make haemoglobin and red blood cells. Folic acid and vitamin B12 support DNA synthesis and maturation of red blood cells, improving haemoglobin levels and reducing anaemia symptoms.
Directions for Use
Oral paediatric syrup; shake well before use. Measure dose with a calibrated spoon/cup as prescribed by the paediatrician. Can be given with food if stomach upset occurs; avoid giving along with milk, tea/coffee; keep a 2-hour gap from calcium/antacids if possible. Rinse mouth/brush teeth after dosing to reduce teeth staining.
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, dark/black stools, metallic taste, teeth staining, loss of appetite
Warnings & Precautions
Use only on medical advice in children. Accidental iron overdose can be dangerous/fatal—store out of reach of children. Use with caution in haemochromatosis/haemosiderosis, repeated blood transfusions, active peptic ulcer disease or inflammatory bowel disease. If symptoms of allergy, severe stomach pain, persistent vomiting, or blood in stools occur, seek medical help. Iron can darken stools (usually harmless).
Drug Interactions
Antacids, calcium supplements/milk, tetracyclines (e.g. doxycycline), quinolones (e.g. ciprofloxacin), levothyroxine, penicillamine, methyldopa, bisphosphonates—may reduce absorption; separate dosing by 2–4 hours. Chloramphenicol may blunt response to iron therapy.
Storage Instructions
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep bottle tightly closed. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
