Tablet
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (post-prandial/high after-meal blood glucose control), used as add-on to diet/exercise alone or with other antidiabetic medicines
Voglibose is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that delays digestion and absorption of carbohydrates in the small intestine. This reduces the rise in blood glucose after meals and improves post-prandial glycaemic control.
Oral tablet. Usually taken immediately before meals (first bite) as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow with water; follow recommended diet and exercise plan. If a dose is missed, take with the next meal—do not double dose.
Flatulence, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, bloating, nausea
Use only in type 2 diabetes (not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis). Caution in patients with gastrointestinal disorders (inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal obstruction, malabsorption) as it can worsen GI symptoms. Monitor blood glucose regularly; risk of hypoglycaemia increases when used with insulin or sulfonylureas—treat low sugar with glucose/dextrose (not sucrose). Use with caution in liver impairment; periodic liver function monitoring may be advised.
Insulin, sulfonylureas (e.g., glimepiride, gliclazide) and other antidiabetics (increased risk of hypoglycaemia), digestive enzyme preparations (reduced effect), intestinal adsorbents (reduced effect)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
