Used to control blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially to reduce post-meal (postprandial) hyperglycaemia; used along with diet and exercise and sometimes with other antidiabetic medicines.
Voglibose is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that slows down the breakdown of complex carbohydrates in the intestine. This delays glucose absorption after meals, thereby reducing postprandial blood sugar spikes.
Tablet for oral use. Usually taken just before meals or with the first bite of food as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow with water; follow diet and exercise advice. If you miss a dose, take it with the next meal; do not double the dose.
Flatulence, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, bloating, nausea
Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in patients with intestinal disorders (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal obstruction, chronic intestinal disease) and in significant hepatic impairment; monitor liver enzymes if advised. Risk of hypoglycaemia increases when used with insulin or sulfonylureas—carry glucose (dextrose) for treatment; sucrose (table sugar) may be less effective. Inform doctor about pregnancy, breastfeeding, and all other medicines.
Insulin, sulfonylureas (e.g., glimepiride/gliclazide), metformin/other antidiabetics (additive glucose-lowering), digestive enzyme preparations, intestinal adsorbents (may reduce effect)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
