Bacterial infections such as acute bacterial sinusitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, ear infections (otitis media), throat/tonsil infections, urinary tract infections, and typhoid fever (as advised by doctor)
How It Works
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects cefixime from enzymatic breakdown, helping it work against resistant bacteria.
Directions for Use
Take tablet by mouth exactly as prescribed. Usually taken once or twice daily; can be taken with or without food (take after food if stomach upset occurs). Complete the full course even if you feel better; do not self-stop.
Prescription-only antibiotic; use only for suspected/confirmed bacterial infections. Inform doctor if allergic to cephalosporins/penicillins or had severe rash/anaphylaxis. Use with caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed) and history of colitis/antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Seek care for severe diarrhoea, blood in stools, severe rash, breathing difficulty, or jaundice. May affect some lab tests (e.g., urine glucose tests).
Drug Interactions
30049087
Warfarin/other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk/INR), probenecid (may increase antibiotic levels), live oral typhoid vaccine (reduced vaccine effect), other nephrotoxic drugs such as aminoglycosides or high-dose diuretics (increased kidney risk)
