Injection
Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia/bronchitis), urinary tract infections, enteric fever (typhoid), otitis media, sinusitis, and other systemic infections as per culture sensitivity
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death of susceptible bacteria.
For injection/infusion use only. Reconstitute the vial with appropriate sterile diluent and administer as directed by a physician (IV/IM route depending on product labeling). Dose and duration depend on infection severity, renal function and culture sensitivity; complete the full prescribed course.
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion, headache, dizziness, rash, itching, injection-site pain/redness, transient rise in liver enzymes
Prescription-only antibiotic. Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefixime/cephalosporins; use caution in penicillin allergy. Adjust dose in renal impairment. May cause antibiotic-associated diarrhoea/Clostridioides difficile colitis; seek care if severe watery/bloody diarrhoea occurs. Use caution in history of colitis. Prolonged use may cause superinfection. Monitor for serious allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), severe skin reactions, and blood dyscrasias though rare.
Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk/INR), probenecid (may increase cefixime levels), live oral typhoid vaccine (reduced vaccine effect), antacids containing magnesium/aluminium (may reduce absorption—relevant mainly for oral forms), nephrotoxic drugs like aminoglycosides/loop diuretics (use caution, especially in renal impairment)
Store below 25°C, protect from light and moisture. After reconstitution, use immediately or within the time limits specified on the label; do not freeze reconstituted solution.
Cefixime 1 g Injection, Cefix 1 g Injection, Mahacef 1 g Injection, Taxim 1 g Injection (cefotaxime), Monocef 1 g Injection (ceftriaxone)
