Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise alone or single/dual therapy is insufficient; helps control post‑meal and fasting blood glucose
How It Works
Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) increases insulin release from the pancreas. Metformin (a biguanide) reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. Voglibose (an alpha‑glucosidase inhibitor) delays carbohydrate absorption in the gut to reduce post‑meal glucose spikes.
Directions for Use
Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with or just after the main meal (often breakfast) to reduce stomach upset and hypoglycaemia risk. Swallow whole; do not crush/chew modified‑release tablets. Monitor blood glucose regularly.
Side Effects
Hypoglycaemia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, flatulence, bloating, headache, dizziness, weight gain
Warnings & Precautions
Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, strenuous exercise, alcohol, elderly, kidney/liver impairment); metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, drowsiness. Use caution/avoid in severe renal impairment, severe liver disease, dehydration, severe infection, hypoxia/heart failure. Temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast and major surgery as advised. Monitor renal function, liver function, and vitamin B12 with long-term metformin.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia/lactic acidosis risk), insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), ACE inhibitors and salicylates (may increase hypoglycaemia), corticosteroids/thiazide diuretics/sympathomimetics (may raise glucose), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), cimetidine and other drugs affecting renal tubular secretion (may increase metformin levels), iodinated contrast media (lactic acidosis risk), NSAIDs and some antibiotics (may affect glucose control)
Storage Instructions
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place; protect from moisture and light; keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
