Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as acute otitis media (ear infection), pharyngitis/tonsillitis, acute sinusitis, acute bronchitis/exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, and uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections (as prescribed).

Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death of susceptible bacteria.

Dry syrup: Reconstitute with boiled and cooled water up to the mark and shake well. Give the prescribed dose using a measuring cup/spoon; can be taken with food (often improves absorption/tolerance). Shake well before each dose; complete the full course even if symptoms improve.

Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion, headache, dizziness, rash, urticaria, oral/vaginal candidiasis

Prescription-only antibiotic; use only for bacterial infections. Do not use in patients with allergy to cefpodoxime/cephalosporins; caution in penicillin allergy. Use with caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed). Seek medical help for severe/persistent diarrhoea (risk of C. difficile), severe rash, facial swelling or breathing difficulty. Prolonged use may cause superinfection. Inform doctor if there is a history of colitis or seizures.

Antacids and H2 blockers (may reduce absorption), probenecid (may increase levels), anticoagulants like warfarin (may increase bleeding risk/INR), other nephrotoxic drugs (increased kidney risk), live bacterial vaccines (e.g., oral typhoid) may be less effective

Store dry powder in a cool, dry place below 25°C, protected from moisture and light. After reconstitution, store as per label (commonly in a refrigerator 2–8°C) and use within the recommended period; do not freeze; keep cap tightly closed.
