Type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve blood glucose control in adults, as an adjunct to diet and exercise; used when metformin alone is inadequate or when switching to combination therapy.
How It Works
Teneligliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin hormones (GLP-1, GIP), enhancing glucose-dependent insulin release and reducing glucagon secretion. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, lowering fasting and post-meal glucose.
Directions for Use
Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with food (preferably with the main meal) to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole if SR/ER; do not crush or chew. Monitor blood glucose regularly.
Side Effects
nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, nasopharyngitis, hypoglycaemia (especially with insulin/sulfonylureas), taste disturbance
Warnings & Precautions
Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Risk of lactic acidosis with metformin—seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, or unusual sleepiness; higher risk with kidney impairment, dehydration, severe infection, alcohol use, liver disease, or heart failure. Check renal function before and during therapy; dose adjustment/avoid in significant renal impairment. Temporarily stop metformin around iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised by doctor. Monitor for pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain), hypersensitivity reactions, and vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term use.
