Used to lower high cholesterol and triglycerides (dyslipidaemia), increase HDL, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke in at‑risk patients.

Atorvastatin is an HMG‑CoA reductase inhibitor (statin). It reduces cholesterol production in the liver, leading to increased clearance of LDL (“bad”) cholesterol from the blood and lowering triglycerides.

Tablet for oral use. Take as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Continue diet and lifestyle measures; do not stop without medical advice.

Headache, muscle pain (myalgia), abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, nausea, indigestion, increased liver enzymes

Contraindicated in active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevation of liver enzymes. Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, heavy alcohol use, hypothyroidism, kidney problems, or history of muscle disorders. Seek medical help for unexplained muscle pain/weakness, fever, or dark urine (risk of myopathy/rhabdomyolysis). Periodic lipid profile and liver function tests may be advised.

Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., clarithromycin, erythromycin, ketoconazole/itraconazole, HIV protease inhibitors), cyclosporine, gemfibrozil/other fibrates, niacin, colchicine (↑ muscle toxicity risk), warfarin (may alter INR), digoxin (may increase levels), grapefruit juice (may increase atorvastatin levels).

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
