Which doctor can issue a medical certificate in India?

In India, only a registered medical practitioner (MBBS or above, registered with a State Medical Council) can issue a valid medical certificate. Acceptance depends on the receiving organisation’s requirements, so a certificate from an unregistered practitioner or a generic template may not be accepted.

Key rules

What makes a medical certificate valid

These four facts cover what every employer, college, and government office checks before accepting a medical certificate.

  • PingMeDoc certificates are reviewed by registered medical doctors. Some purposes require a designated examiner or additional tests.
  • What employers check: doctor name, registration number, clinic details, signature, date, and purpose alignment.
  • A doctor-issued certificate must reflect an appropriate clinical assessment. Telemedicine guidance does not guarantee acceptance for every purpose or remove examination requirements. Check the receiving authority’s rules before applying.
  • Turnaround: Standard within 24 hours, Express in 60 minutes, choose based on urgency.

How PingMeDoc differs

What you can verify on every certificate

Registered doctors only

Every certificate includes the doctor's full name, MBBS registration number, State Medical Council details, and clinic address. Verifiable by your employer or institution.

Assessment-based, not template-based

Every application is reviewed by a doctor, who may ask for more information, a call, reports, or an in-person examination before deciding, rather than issuing from a fixed template.

Purpose-matched format

Sick leave certificates include leave dates and employer format. Fitness certificates confirm fit-to-join. Each type follows the format institutions actually check.

Privacy by default

Diagnosis is included only when required by the certificate type. Fitness or caretaker certificates don't need diagnosis, protecting your medical privacy.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

The required qualification depends on the purpose and receiving authority. PingMeDoc uses registered medical doctors. Some regulated forms require an examiner specifically appointed or authorized for that purpose, so check both registration and the recipient’s rules.
