Liver Function Test (LFT) Interpreter
A liver function test (LFT) checks enzymes and proteins that show how your liver is working. Enter your values to understand them. Typical adult ranges: SGPT/ALT 7–56 U/L, SGOT/AST 8–48 U/L, total bilirubin 0.1–1.2 mg/dL, ALP 44–147 U/L, albumin 3.5–5.0 g/dL. Mildly raised enzymes are common and often reversible (e.g. fatty liver), but should be reviewed.

Frequently asked questions
What does high SGPT/SGOT mean?+
Raised SGPT (ALT) and SGOT (AST) signal liver-cell irritation. In India the commonest cause is non-alcoholic fatty liver disease; alcohol, viral hepatitis and some medicines also raise them. Mild elevations often improve with weight loss and lifestyle change, but persistent rises need evaluation.
What does high bilirubin mean?+
High bilirubin can cause jaundice (yellowing of the eyes/skin). Causes range from harmless (Gilbert's syndrome) to liver disease or bile-duct blockage. The pattern of the other LFT values helps tell them apart — see a doctor for a raised bilirubin.
Can a liver function test be normal and still have a problem?+
Yes. Early fatty liver and some chronic conditions can exist with normal enzymes, and a single normal LFT doesn't rule everything out. If you have risk factors or symptoms, your doctor may add an ultrasound or other tests.
How does the blood test interpreter work?+
Enter the values from your lab report and the tool explains what each marker means in plain language, flags which results are outside the typical reference range, and suggests questions to ask your doctor. It is an educational aid, not a diagnosis.
Are these reference ranges accurate for India?+
The ranges shown are typical adult values, but every lab prints its own reference range on your report — and ranges differ by age, sex, pregnancy and testing method. Always read your result against the range printed on your own report.
Can I rely on this instead of seeing a doctor?+
No. The interpreter helps you understand your report, but blood results must be read alongside your symptoms, history and examination. An abnormal value is not automatically a diagnosis, and a normal panel doesn't rule everything out. Always confirm with a doctor.
Can I book the test or a doctor through PingMeDoc?+
Yes. You can book lab tests with free home sample collection and consult a doctor online through PingMeDoc to review your report and plan next steps.
