Povidone-iodine slowly releases free iodine on the skin. Iodine penetrates microorganisms and inactivates proteins and enzymes, killing a broad range of bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa.
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer of ointment 1-3 times daily or as advised by a doctor; may be covered with sterile gauze. Avoid use with tight occlusive dressings unless advised. Wash hands after application; avoid contact with eyes and mouth.

Do not use if allergic to iodine/povidone-iodine. Avoid prolonged or extensive use, especially on large wounds/burns, as iodine can be absorbed and may affect thyroid function. Use with caution in thyroid disorders, kidney disease, and in patients on lithium therapy. Not for deep puncture wounds, animal bites or serious burns unless directed by a doctor. Stop use and seek medical advice if irritation, swelling, rash or symptoms of allergy occur.
