Sodium valproate 300 mg (as enteric-coated/controlled release depending on pack)
Epilepsy/seizure disorders, bipolar disorder (mania) as prescribed, prevention of migraine (selected patients as prescribed)
Valproate increases inhibitory neurotransmission in the brain (enhances GABA activity) and reduces neuronal excitability. This helps control seizures and stabilizes mood in bipolar disorder.
Take exactly as prescribed, preferably with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow tablets whole; do not crush or chew (especially if enteric-coated). Regular monitoring may be needed (liver function, blood counts, valproate level in some cases).
Common side effects of Encorate 300 Tablet may include:
High risk of birth defects and developmental disorders; avoid in pregnancy unless no alternative and under specialist care. Risk of serious liver injury (especially in young children), pancreatitis, hyperammonemia/encephalopathy, thrombocytopenia and bleeding; monitor symptoms and labs. Use caution in liver disease, mitochondrial disorders, and with other CNS depressants.
