Racecadotril 10 mg per sachet (powder for oral suspension)
Symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhoea in infants and children (usually >3 months), as an adjunct to oral rehydration therapy (ORS); may be used in acute diarrhoea in adults as per physician advice.
Racecadotril is an enkephalinase inhibitor. It reduces intestinal hypersecretion of water and electrolytes by increasing endogenous enkephalins in the gut, without significantly affecting intestinal motility.
Dissolve the contents of the sachet in a small amount of water, milk, or food and administer immediately. Use as prescribed by the doctor, typically given 3 times daily until diarrhoea stops (not usually beyond 7 days). Continue ORS; maintain hydration. For pediatric use, dose is weight/age-based as advised by the physician.
Common side effects of Redotil Powder may include:
Not a substitute for oral rehydration—ORS is essential. Do not use in chronic diarrhoea, antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, or diarrhoea with blood in stools/high fever unless advised by a doctor. Use with caution in severe renal/hepatic impairment. Stop and seek medical help if allergic reaction (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty) occurs. In children, consult a doctor if diarrhoea persists >48 hours, signs of dehydration occur, or vomiting prevents oral intake.
