High blood pressure (hypertension), angina (chest pain), prevention of migraine, control of fast heart rate/arrhythmias, anxiety-associated palpitations and tremors, prevention of bleeding from esophageal varices (portal hypertension)

Propranolol is a non-selective beta-blocker that reduces the effects of adrenaline on the heart and blood vessels. It lowers heart rate and blood pressure, decreases cardiac workload, and helps stabilize abnormal rhythms. In migraine prevention, it reduces vascular and nerve excitability contributing to attacks.

Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily for TR/extended-release capsules. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew. Prefer taking at the same time each day; can be taken with or without food but be consistent. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Bradycardia (slow pulse), fatigue, dizziness, cold hands/feet, nausea, diarrhea/constipation, sleep disturbances/vivid dreams, low blood pressure, shortness of breath (in susceptible patients)

Do not use in asthma/COPD with bronchospasm, severe bradycardia, heart block, cardiogenic shock, or uncontrolled heart failure unless advised by a doctor. May mask symptoms of low blood sugar in diabetics; monitor glucose. Use caution in peripheral vascular disease, thyroid disorders, depression, liver/kidney disease. Taper gradually to avoid rebound angina/hypertension. May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected.

Verapamil, diltiazem, amiodarone, digoxin (additive bradycardia/heart block), clonidine (rebound hypertension on withdrawal), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masks hypoglycemia), NSAIDs like ibuprofen (may reduce BP-lowering effect), other antihypertensives, bronchodilators (reduced effect), SSRIs like fluoxetine/paroxetine (may increase propranolol levels), cimetidine (increases levels), rifampicin (reduces levels)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
