Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise alone are inadequate.

Gliclazide is a sulfonylurea that stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells. It helps lower blood glucose, mainly reducing fasting and post-meal sugar levels.

Take exactly as prescribed, usually with breakfast or main meal. Do not skip meals to reduce hypoglycemia risk; monitor blood glucose regularly. Dose adjustments may be needed in elderly or renal impairment.

Hypoglycemia, nausea, abdominal pain, weight gain, dizziness, headache, rash

Risk of hypoglycemia (higher with missed meals, alcohol, strenuous exercise, or overdose). Use caution in kidney/liver impairment and in elderly. Not recommended in type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis; inform doctor before surgery/acute illness.

Other antidiabetics/insulin (hypoglycemia), alcohol (disulfiram-like reaction and hypoglycemia), azole antifungals and macrolides (increase effect), rifampicin (decrease effect), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycemia), corticosteroids/thiazides (raise glucose)

Store below 25°C, protect from moisture and light, keep in original blister pack.
