Tablet
Type 2 diabetes mellitus; used to control post-meal (postprandial) and fasting blood glucose when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.
Voglibose inhibits intestinal alpha-glucosidase enzymes, delaying carbohydrate digestion and reducing post-meal glucose spikes. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, helping lower blood glucose levels.
Tablet for oral use. Usually taken with meals; voglibose-containing combinations are commonly taken just before the first bite of food as advised by the doctor. Swallow whole with water; do not crush/chew. Follow prescribed dose and schedule.
Flatulence, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, metallic taste, headache, hypoglycaemia (especially with other antidiabetics), vitamin B12 deficiency (long-term), weakness
Prescription-only antidiabetic. Risk of hypoglycaemia increases if used with insulin or sulfonylureas; keep glucose source handy. Metformin can rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk is higher with kidney impairment, severe infection, dehydration, heavy alcohol use, or hypoxia; kidney function monitoring is recommended. Use caution in liver disease. Stop temporarily before/after iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised by clinician. Seek medical help for severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting/diarrhea, rapid breathing, unusual drowsiness, or muscle pain.
Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk), alcohol (increased lactic acidosis risk with metformin), iodinated contrast media (risk of kidney injury/lactic acidosis—temporary discontinuation), cimetidine (may increase metformin levels), carbonic anhydrase inhibitors e.g., topiramate/acetazolamide (may increase acidosis risk), diuretics and NSAIDs (may worsen renal function), corticosteroids and thiazide diuretics (may raise glucose), beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
