Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), especially when single-drug therapy is insufficient; helps reduce risk of cardiovascular complications associated with uncontrolled BP
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels by blocking angiotensin II effects, lowering blood pressure. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that dilates peripheral arteries by reducing calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle. Together they provide additive BP reduction.
Take by mouth as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food. Swallow whole with water; continue regularly even if you feel well.
Dizziness, headache, ankle/leg swelling (edema), flushing, fatigue, palpitations, nausea
May cause dizziness especially at start or with dose increases—use caution while driving. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and serum potassium (risk of hyperkalemia, especially with kidney disease or potassium-raising drugs). Not recommended in pregnancy (can harm the fetus); stop and contact doctor if pregnancy occurs. Use caution in severe liver disease, dehydration, heart failure, aortic stenosis, or history of angioedema. Do not use with aliskiren in diabetes; caution in renal artery stenosis.
Potassium supplements/potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone) and salt substitutes (hyperkalemia), NSAIDs (reduced antihypertensive effect/renal risk), lithium (increased lithium levels), other antihypertensives/diuretics (additive hypotension), aliskiren (avoid in diabetes), ACE inhibitors/other ARBs (increased renal risk), simvastatin (amlodipine increases levels; dose limit), grapefruit juice (may increase amlodipine levels in some patients)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and direct light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
