Neuropathic pain (e.g., diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia), nerve pain associated with spinal conditions; may also be used as adjunct therapy in partial-onset seizures as prescribed

Pregabalin binds to the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the CNS. This reduces release of excitatory neurotransmitters and decreases abnormal nerve signal transmission, thereby relieving neuropathic pain and reducing seizure activity.

Take by mouth once daily (OD) as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush, chew or break (modified-release). Can be taken with or without food; if it causes dizziness or sleepiness, take in the evening.

Dizziness, sleepiness (somnolence), blurred vision, dry mouth, peripheral edema (swelling), weight gain, constipation, fatigue, difficulty concentrating

May cause dizziness/somnolence—avoid driving or operating machinery until you know its effect. Use caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment required). Can cause swelling and weight gain; use caution in heart failure. Do not stop suddenly; taper as advised to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Rarely may cause mood changes or suicidal thoughts—seek medical help if symptoms occur. Use caution in elderly and with other CNS depressants.

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (opioids, benzodiazepines, sedating antihistamines) increase drowsiness/respiratory depression risk; opioids may increase constipation and sedation; ACE inhibitors may increase risk of angioedema; antidiabetic thiazolidinediones (pioglitazone/rosiglitazone) may increase edema/weight gain

Store below 25°C, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
