Gliclazide (60mg) + Metformin (500mg)
Type 2 diabetes mellitus—helps control high blood sugar, used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines along with diet and exercise
Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and decreases absorption of glucose from the intestine. It also improves insulin sensitivity, helping body tissues use glucose more effectively.
Take orally as prescribed, usually once daily with the evening meal (or as directed). Swallow XR tablet whole; do not crush, chew, or split. Take at the same time each day; continue diet and exercise plan.
Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, metallic taste, flatulence, headache, vitamin B12 deficiency (long-term)
Risk of lactic acidosis (rare but serious)—seek urgent care for fast breathing, severe weakness, unusual muscle pain, drowsiness, or abdominal discomfort. Use with caution in kidney impairment; dose adjustment/avoid may be needed—monitor eGFR. Temporarily stop before/after iodinated contrast imaging or major surgery as advised. Use caution in liver disease, alcohol use, dehydration, and in elderly. May cause low blood sugar when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Alcohol (increases lactic acidosis risk), iodinated contrast media, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., topiramate, acetazolamide), cimetidine, certain diuretics, corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics; insulin/sulfonylureas increase hypoglycemia risk when combined
