Relief of pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute musculoskeletal pain

Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces the production of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclo-oxygenase (preferential COX-2 inhibition). This lowers pain, swelling, and inflammation.

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily. Preferably take after food with water to reduce stomach upset; swallow whole and do not crush/chew. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration.

Acidity, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, swelling (edema), raised blood pressure

NSAIDs may increase risk of stomach/intestinal bleeding or ulcers (higher in elderly, history of ulcers, alcohol use). May increase risk of heart attack or stroke with prolonged use/high doses; use caution in heart disease, hypertension. Avoid in severe kidney or liver disease; monitor renal function if dehydrated/elderly or on diuretics. Not recommended in late pregnancy (may harm fetus/affect labor). Stop and seek care if rash, breathing difficulty, black stools, vomiting blood, severe abdominal pain.

Anticoagulants/antiplatelets (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel) – bleeding risk, SSRIs/SNRIs – bleeding risk, corticosteroids – ulcer risk, ACE inhibitors/ARBs and diuretics – kidney risk/reduced antihypertensive effect, lithium – increased levels/toxicity, methotrexate – increased toxicity, other NSAIDs – additive adverse effects

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
