Take exactly as prescribed by the doctor, usually 1.5–2 hours before scheduled UVA exposure/phototherapy. Swallow whole with water; taking with food or milk may reduce nausea. Avoid additional sun exposure on treatment days; wear UVA-protective sunglasses and protective clothing as advised.
Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, headache, dizziness, itching, redness/sunburn-like reaction, skin darkening, dry skin
For use only under medical supervision with planned UVA exposure. Risk of severe photosensitivity and burns—avoid sunlight and use protective clothing/sunscreen as directed. Wear UVA-protective sunglasses during and after dosing to reduce cataract risk. Long-term PUVA may increase risk of skin aging and skin cancers; regular skin and eye monitoring recommended. Use caution in liver disease and in patients with history of photosensitivity disorders.
Other photosensitizing medicines (tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, thiazides, sulfonamides, retinoids), methoxsalen/other psoralens, St. John’s wort, drugs affecting liver enzymes (may alter psoralen levels)
