Salbutamol (2mg) + Theophylline (100mg)
Relief and prevention of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis and other conditions with reversible airway obstruction/wheezing.
Salbutamol is a selective beta-2 agonist that relaxes bronchial smooth muscle to quickly relieve wheeze and breathlessness. Theophylline is a bronchodilator (methylxanthine) that helps keep airways open and may reduce airway hyper-responsiveness, improving airflow over time.
Oral syrup. Take exactly as prescribed; measure with a dosing cup/spoon. Can be taken with food if it causes stomach upset; take at the same time each day. Do not exceed the recommended dose; shake well before use.
Tremor, headache, nervousness, palpitations, fast heartbeat (tachycardia), nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, restlessness, insomnia
Use only on medical advice, especially in children and elderly. Caution in heart disease/arrhythmias, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, seizure disorders, liver disease, and peptic ulcer. Theophylline has a narrow safety margin—overdose can cause severe nausea/vomiting, rapid/irregular heartbeat, seizures; seek urgent care if suspected. Smoking, fever, and liver impairment can alter theophylline levels. Not for sudden severe asthma attack unless advised; follow your asthma action plan.
Theophylline interactions: erythromycin/clarithromycin, ciprofloxacin, cimetidine (increase levels/toxicity); rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, smoking (decrease levels). Salbutamol interactions: non-selective beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol) reduce effect; other sympathomimetics increase side effects; diuretics/corticosteroids/xanthines may increase risk of low potassium; MAO inhibitors/TCAs may potentiate cardiovascular effects.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
