Treatment of acid-related disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn/acid reflux, erosive esophagitis, gastric and duodenal ulcers; part of combination therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication; Zollinger–Ellison syndrome.

Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that irreversibly blocks the H+/K+ ATPase (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells. This reduces stomach acid production, helping relieve symptoms and allowing ulcers and esophageal irritation to heal.

Oral tablet. Take as prescribed, usually once daily (20 mg) preferably 30 minutes before food, ideally before breakfast. Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew. For H. pylori regimens, take along with prescribed antibiotics as directed.

Headache, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence, constipation, dizziness

Use with caution in severe liver disease. Long-term use may increase risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, low magnesium, bone fractures, and gastric polyps; prolonged diarrhea could indicate C. difficile infection. May mask symptoms of gastric cancer—seek medical advice if alarm symptoms (weight loss, vomiting, GI bleeding, dysphagia) occur. If rash, joint pain, or photosensitivity occurs, consult doctor (rare lupus-like reactions).

Warfarin, digoxin, methotrexate (high dose), diuretics (risk of hypomagnesemia), clopidogrel (possible reduced activation—monitor/avoid if advised), ketoconazole/itraconazole/posaconazole (reduced absorption), atazanavir/nelfinavir (reduced levels—avoid), erlotinib (reduced effect), iron salts (reduced absorption)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
