Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); helps reduce risk of complications such as stroke and heart attack associated with uncontrolled BP.

Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It blocks angiotensin II at AT1 receptors, causing blood vessel relaxation and reduced aldosterone effects, which lowers blood pressure and reduces cardiac workload.

Take as prescribed by the doctor, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water; do not stop abruptly without medical advice. If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless it is close to the next dose.

Not recommended in pregnancy (can harm unborn baby); stop and consult doctor if pregnancy occurs. Use caution in kidney disease, renal artery stenosis, dehydration/low salt state, heart failure, and in elderly due to risk of low BP and kidney function worsening. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and serum potassium periodically. Rare: severe diarrhea/weight loss (sprue-like enteropathy) reported with olmesartan—seek medical attention if persistent. Avoid potassium supplements/salt substitutes unless advised.

Potassium supplements/potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone, amiloride) and salt substitutes (risk of hyperkalemia), NSAIDs (may reduce BP effect and worsen kidney function), lithium (increased lithium levels/toxicity), other antihypertensives/diuretics (additive hypotension), ACE inhibitors or aliskiren (increased risk of kidney impairment/hyperkalemia; avoid especially in diabetes).

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
